About the Character: Cosmographia app. I realize that a few things are fairly bare-bones there, so let me elaborate.
Marla had a pretty uneventful childhood by Pokemon world standards (by a certain definition), as she grew up with her two parents, her younger sister. and two older half-siblings. She was also born with a mild to moderate bone disease that left her unable to explore the entire region to the same extent a lot of other kids would, so she mostly stayed in school. Marla doesn’t have too many complexes over her disability, and is honestly more self-conscious and salty when people make judgments on her over it than she is about the condition itself - which she just views in a “yeah it sucks, but what are you gonna do” kind of way.
After finishing high school, she received a scholarship to study abroad in Kalos. After a few weeks, she received an email from her mom with some harrowing news: her maternal grandparents had been found dead.
So on her mother's request, she decided to head over to her grandparents' house with her siblings to help with funeral stuff. This started off relatively painless at first...until she started cleaning out a bedroom and found some spooky ghosts which dragged her into a blood-spattered feverdream. Most of thid has to do with the fact that Marla's maternal aunt (also the biological mother of Marla's two older siblings that Marla's mother subsequently adopted) died years and years ago, only to be turned into a ghost Pokemon of some sort and in the middle of an existential crisis.
Things are kind of boring on the CRAU front here, mostly because I apped into both games as they were experiencing a bit of a downturn. Demeleier closed a mere three months after Marla was accepted, but the few months she spent there taught her to be more self-sufficient: she went from being an ordinary teenager with no idea how to do shit to one who was still maybe flailing around and sucking at life, but who had more of a drive to do things herself and more resourcefulness when it came to things like building shit. During this time she also found her formerly trusting nature crushed to dust as she had to deal with the fact that fairies lie and trick people all the time. She’s still a little salty and on edge because of it.
In Cosmographia, this self-sufficiency grew even more as she was asked to deal with obstacles on her own. The addition of actual powers, for the first time, has made her a bit more confident in this regard, although she’s still somewhat reluctant to do more intensive dungeon-crawling things out of a fear of biting off more than she can chew. Still, she did help take down a giant hawk and play with some babby hawk...griffin things, which she does remember fondly. Dealing with gem bullshit has also given her a fairly blase outlook on things other people would normally consider terrifying, although a lot of this is left over from the Pokemon universe she came from.
Due to her caring nature that’s wrapped under a thousand layers of stupid, but also the fact that she comes from the Pokemon universe, Marla has a natural affinity for animals and monsters of all stripes.
BOY HOWDY, this is depressing, but one fact remains as I write this app: Marla is someone who had a happy childhood and a loving family that she more or less had healthy relationships with...only for all of that to be cruelly torn away from her once she got thrusted into panfandom RP. Without her support network to fall back on, her tendency towards depression has gotten notably more pronounced, even as she insists that she’s just fine, don’t worry about it.
Being in jamjars for this long, particularly since both had been in a series of drops during her time there, has also left her somewhat reluctant to form long-term relationships with anyone there. Why become close to anyone when they’re just going to disappear on you? In Cosmographia, this has affected a few of her fusions: while she’s been able to do this a few times, they’ve never been that powerful or stable. She’s still very much at a point in her life where she’s trying to figure out what the hell she’s doing and what she wants out of life, so I’m hoping that building CR here will help her either figure that out, or realize that life doesn’t necessarily need to have a purpose.
Marla’s also grown just a tad more cynical and petty over the past couple of years - she’s still not the most violent person out there, but if she decides she doesn’t like you and you tell her not to do something...well, guess what she’s doing. Her naturally rude, hyper-casual, and abrasive way of dealing with people also usually doesn’t have any ulterior motives behind it, but she’ll kick it up a notch when dealing with people she doesn’t like. It’s like a cloak of armor, defending her from the stings of the outside world by making everyone pass her off as an irreverent schlub so that she doesn’t have to deal with them on a deeper level unless she puts forth a little more effort.
She's also a highly creative and excitable little nerd at heart, with a penchant for arts and crafts and weird performance stuff. This is exemplified with her career as a fledgling Let's Player at home, her secret love for Pokemon musicals, and her organization of the haunted house event in Cosmo.
That doesn’t mean that there’s absolutely nothing in this world (or the multiverse) that Marla cares about. The few people who did make some progress in cracking her shell (Haruka, Amelie) are some of the people she’s made the fondest memories with, and even after everything, she does prioritize her friends (and her family, both adopted and not) over everything else.
So once she decides she likes you? She’s never going to turn her back.
