About the Character: Okay, this is a bit of a doozy, so you might wanna get a snack.

The Abyssal Realm of Miari was a kingdom (oh, okay, it's actually a queendom) of several tiny islands around a giant whirlpool, which is actually the portal to a huge fuck-all dimension of garbage, deleted characters/items, and other meta bullshit. The fact that everyone is characters from a badly coded video game is… Well, a few people know that their world is an illusion, but not that they were fictional or what a video game was.

In Miari, there was a practice of a girl (aged 16-17) being chosen from each island to help combat the various monsters and horrorterror hiccups that resulted from the meta whirlpool. These girls were known as Champions, and typically, once you were chosen (by fate/The Powers That Be, as it were), you served either until you died or reached age 20 (although if you were still alive then, you could certainly elect to serve longer). A new Champion was chosen whenever the Champion from their island either died or retired.

Things have been a lot more intense for the past decade or so, mostly because the illusion that held up their kingdom was slowly crumbling. Go on, question Tali about what other countries exist in her world and such. She doesn't have very many adequate answers.

Tali was born as the daughter of the second princess of Miari (who was studying at one of the realm's most prestigious universities at the time Tali was conceived) and her lover, one of hte land's most talked-about poets and playwrights. Most of her childhood up until the age of about seven or so was fairly normal, as her mother tried to raise her like a typical upper-class child who had privilege but not a whole lot of responsibilities. So she grew up in the palace with frequent visits from her father, and she was happy.

Then her maternal aunt, the crown princess, died without heirs after making an investigation into the, I don't know, GIANT FUCKING WHIRLPOOL PORTAL OF DOOM their kingdom was situated on.

This prompted Tali's mother to marry her sister's fiance in order to preserve a political alliance, and become the crown princess. She also became stricter with Tali's upbringing at this time, making absolutely sure that her daughter was ready for the responsibilities and duties of queendom. At the time, there was also a whole lot of unrest going on because of a group of people who were aware of the true nature of their world. Their ultimate goal was to destoy the veil that separated the illusion of Miari as an actual-ass country from the cruel reality of being a soul trapped in a bunch of scripted bullshit, under the pretense of "an ugly truth is better than a beautiful lie", and also "maybe we can destroy the curse that's holding us all prisoner, IDK".

Unfortunately this was, in practice, a very small rebellion that ended up being crushed by the queen at the time, Tali's grandmother. Before their leader could be sent off to a cruel and frankly impersonal execution, Tali's mother challenged her to a duel to the death, to give this person an honorable death where they otherwise wouldn't.
