NPCS

QUARKDROIDS

The six androids that run Keystone Station, later joined by their three siblings from Lodestone Station - physically all identical, so after the arrival of the PCs, they begin wearing scarves so that others can tell them apart. Their voicebanks are also drawn from the same source, and thus they all sound identical (and androgynous). Except for Charm (who identifies as male), and Muon (female/she), all are genderless and use 'they' pronouns.

Physically, they are slim, tall humanoids (standing at 2m/6'6) made of polished silver metal and translucent white silicone, through which wires, lights, and other computer parts are occasionally visible. Their faces are expressive but occasionally uncanny, and for the most part they move in the way you would expect a human being to move. Being androids, they have direct access to the network and don't need a separate device to use it.

UP: Fissure exploration "mission commander" and expert. Takes themselves too seriously; behaves as they think a person of Authority should behave, to the amusement of their fellows. Doesn't seem to know what to do with anything outside their area of expertise. Scarf: Dark blue, worn like a hijab (wrapped to cover all of the head and neck except the face). Also wears a beaded belt around their hips; their sound cue is the beads hitting their leg. Their magical powers can be summarized as "life-tracking" - Up is capable of telling if any person they have met is still alive (or if they're undead/etc), as well as their status being within this world or not.

DOWN: Network manager and communications bot. Pretty much never seen in person and when they are, is shy and withdrawn - but perfectly expressive over text. Extremely interested in the question of how it is characters can mutually understand each other in spite of all the different languages in their worlds. Scarf: White, tied in a single precise knot right against the 'throat,' with ends trailing. Does not currently wear an accessory to sound-cue the blind residents of the Station.

STRANGE: Medic. Not so secretly a big fan of the weird and gross things organic bodies do, and sometimes takes it too far. Outside of their passion for all things questionable and possibly infectious, fairly reserved and businesslike. May ask characters for tissue samples at inappropriate times. Fondly exasperated at most of the station's new biological residents. Scarf: Light purple, looped loosely around the neck with the ends over their shoulders. Taken off for surgery and anything else that might get it dirty. Their sound cue is an anklet with a single small, silver bell, which was probably once a cat's collar bell. Their magical powers are known to uinclude various forms of magical analysis.

CHARM: The magic bot. Technically, all six are magitek creations and all capable of some degree of magic, but Charm is the one who really dived in and grew passionate about it. Energetic and outgoing, especially towards characters with magical abilities, and typically very casual with his speech. However, he has the shortest temper, and actually gets upset about things close to him rather easily. Scarf: Red, worn either loosely around neck or as a headscarf. Sound cue is a collection of thin metal bangles that jangle against each other. His magical powers are known to include elemental manipulation.

TOP: Gearhead. Maintains the environment and other systems of the station, as well as any tech the characters offer or might come across that doesn't infringe on Down's communication specialization. Very relaxed personality; takes things as they come. Scarf: Orange, almost always grease-stained, worn whichever way is most convenient at the time. Sound cue is the whistling noise of a spinner-ring being spun around one of their fingers; it has a flame pattern on the spinning part.

BOTTOM
: Technically in charge of preserving the genetic samples, seeds, and other Emergency Vault to Recreate the World type items. As a result, has also wound up in charge of the food supply, which they don't particularly enjoy and would be happy to hand off to someone else qualified. The most stern. Scarf: Medium green, tied in an intricate knot and turned around so that the ends trail down their back and out of the way. Sound-cue is a single larger metal bangle, about an inch wide, in plain metal.

TAU: One of the androids from Lodestone Station. Tau is the most sensible one out of the Lodestone trio, with a solid foundation. Given their powers, they've largely stepped up to the plate on vehicle maintenance, but they also assist with various other sciency and tech things around Keystone. A chronic nicknamer. Their scarf is light blue and their magic is 'technopathy, but only to things that could arguably be considered a vehicle.'

MUON: 'Mu' for short. She is the most high-energy of any of the androids, and very excited about all the new arrivals at the stations. However, that energy also sometimes makes her react without thinking, and she's prone to flitting from interest to interest as the mood strikes her, without any particular specialty. After an incident where she broke Church's arm, she's currently trying to learn to fight without the use of her magic. Muon wears a yellow scarf and a yellow vest alternately, and makes it very obvious that yellow is her favorite color. Her magic is gravity manipulation.

NEUTRINO: 'Trino' for short. This android is quiet and a bit shy, but without the anxiousness that leads to Down staying out of the spotlight. Due to their powers, Neutrino made a basic level of contact with the entity thought to be behind the Fissure incidents, and has recently been focusing their research in that direction. They wear a black scarf and a long black skirt. Neutrino's magic is an empathy sense.

OTHERS

JOSEPHINE ([personal profile] trashcats - Top's pet possum. Often found in various places around the Station; in particular, prone to showing up to beg for snacks in the kitchens, or to climbing into the lap of anyone who stays too long in the common room. She also has a large cushion on the Technology Lab that serves as her bed. Wears an orange collar with rhinestones; friendly and affectionate. May actually be a semi-domesticated subspecies; no one is quite sure, as she was found in a Fissure.

VIELLA - The young-seeming woman who serves as the proprietor of the odd noodle shop seated in the branches of the Infinity Tree, within the Amesta Forest Fissure. A native resident of the unstable world, and a member of the team that helped to create the androids. She developed the ability to manipulate dreams as a result of Fissure exposure as a young child, and as a result is able to access the dream-associated Fissure through them; her true body lies in protective magical stasis. (Posts from mod account; PB is Evanna Lynch.)

??? ([personal profile] thefragment  ) -The broken entity thought to be the source of the Fissures, searching for its missing pieces. Extremely magically powerful, known to be frightened of contact with humans.
