MISSIONS
Looking for something to do, or a bit of extra loot to line your pockets? You've come to the right place!
Missions are smaller than expeditions, usually 2-4 characters, to previously explored Fissures or other settings. The primary purpose is usually for the repair of damaged reality stabilizers, which have stopped functioning and thus allow the magic of the Fissure to reassert itself. There are also occasionally minor Fissures, too small for a full expedition, that need to be stabilized before they grow out of control.
Due to this, missions to existing Fissures have the same effects that they did in the original expedition (unless otherwise noted). If you're looking for a way to have your characters (re)experience a Fissure, this is the way to do so! Just beware - the reopening of the Fissure also means that its more dangerous creatures return...
Do I have to participate in Missions?
Nope! They're optional sidequests, so to speak. The main reason to participate in them is bonus loot. This can be an IC justification for where you got that cool thing you spent your points on, or randomized loot as from dungeons. (The amount of random loot you get from a mission is also random, but usually 2-4 items.)
What kind of Missions are there?
Generally (excepting special missions), there are two kinds. The first are Repair Missions, which allow characters to revisit major Fissures in order to repair or replace malfunctioning stabilizers.
The second type, Minor Fissures, calls upon characters to stabilize smaller Fissures that don't require a full expedition. If you're looking for a chance to design a little bit of a dungeon yourself, this is your time to shine! Alternatively, you can just let the mods come up with something.
Do we have to do logs for Missions?
Nope! Doing a log for a mission primarily nets you the chance to thread out whatever happens there for additional points; it doesn't affect your loot rolls.
Is there a limit to the number of Missions we can go on?
Players can only get rewards for two (2) missions per AC period. You're welcome to ICly go on more if your character needs something to do, but OOCly rewards are capped.
What are Special Missions?
Any mission that doesn't involve the usual objective of "go in, mess with stabilizer, get out" would potentially qualify as a special mission. These may be other events in Fissure areas that are time limited, plot-related missions, etc... Any special mission opportunities would have their start and end dates listed on the regular game update.
Will mods ever approach players about doing a Mission? Will Missions ever be metaplot-relevant?
Perhaps. If such a mission should happen, however, there would be no requirement for approached players to participate. Such missions might involve scouting a new Fissure prior to a major expedition or looking for a particular resource, rather than the usual enter-and-repair format of normal missions, and thus would qualify as special missions.
Can we use Missions as a hiatus mechanic? How does that work?
Hiatuses are one of the things missions are designed for! The general rule of thumb is that your character would go on a mission (either solo, or getting separated from the group) and get hit by the occasional time-warping that happens in Fissures. What seems like only a day or two to them could be quite a bit longer on the outside! Missions are best for shorter hiatuses, because eventually someone will come looking for you.
Outside of the hiatus mechanic, missions typically last ICly from 1-3 days.
Got a form?
Yep, as usual!

no subject
Character + journal: Goro Akechi
Accompanying characters: Akira Kurusu (female)
Destination: Beach!
Mission type: Search-and-repair, with a side order of level grinding.
MISSION RESULTS
KAZOO!!! A regular old plastic kazoo... except this one plugs into an amplifier. Oh dear.
Leopard Print Jacket: A HUGE fuzzy jacket that's at least twice your size. It's leopard print and honestly hideous, but at least it's nice and warm.
Events
The search and repair mission is fairly straightforward! They do find an unstable area about 3/4s of the way down the length of Bloodsands Beach, which nets them the above loot and (happily for Goro) a single dead landshark. The stabilizer here needs replacement, due to... Well. It appears some seagull tried to use it for a nest. Oops!
