SETTING - KEYSTONE ANNEX

A bit to the east of the main part of the Station, the Keystone Annex occupies a short building and an artificial cavern connected to the main station via a covered path from the Research Level. There are two floors and a covered roof aboveground, as well as the wide space of the hangar below, open to the view of the sandy beach to the south.

ROOF

The roof of the Annex is practically a floor in its own right, walled in by clear glass. The outer edge is set up as a modern sort of minimalist lounge, though the furniture is as mismatched as ever and still sparse. The most distinctive thing is that, rather than the harsher artificial lights of the rest of the station, the halls of the lounge are lit by magical flames and other such gentle lights, dimming when the light of day makes them unnecessary but never entirely going out.The glass walls seal it off from the outside breeze and rain, making it an even better place to sit "outside" than the viewing deck, if with somewhat less cozy seating. Come summer, though, it's bound to get quite hot inside.

At one end of the long hallway, though, colored glass - the panes seemingly melted together from fragments of glass bottles and other such items, green and brown and clear and sometimes other colors in a random, molten arrangement - takes over. Opening the door in this back corner reveals first a short row of six changing stalls (walled off from each other in the same sort of glass, not quite opaque but enough for privacy), a trio of shower stalls, and finally two more doors on either side of the hallway.

The room that previously was empty now contains a variety of wooden slats over the floor, and benches along the walls - the station's sauna is now open for business, just in time for the end of summer and colder weather setting in. There's a constant faint stream of steam escaping from under the door, fogging up the nearby glass, but most of it is firmly contained until someone opens the doors. In addition to the traditional wooden walls and seats, there's a projector of some sort mounted to the ceiling - if for some reason you wanted to stay in here that long, it's possible to watch movies from the AV collection downstairs on one of the wooden walls.

The other opens to a room with a large hot tub. And large is no understatement - it's nearly large enough to qualify as a pool, seating twelve people comfortably (or perhaps up to eighteen if you all really like each other), with steps up one side to better enable access. The exterior walls are the clear glass again, but have panels that can be opened to allow steam to escape and cool the room inside, if those within so desire. A page of "rules" tacked to the door reads;

NO SEX IN THE HOT TUB
      I REALLY MEAN IT
Please wear swimsuits or something, and shower first if you're gross!

If you're short a swimsuit or trunks, there's a box on a table just inside the door that has something in your size, surely (though anyone looking for an actual matching set of bikini top and bottoms is probably out of luck). A thick stack of towels shares the table.

GREENHOUSE

What takes up the rest of the space on the Annex roof? Well, it's easy enough to see inside, since these walls too are clear glass, the better to let the sunlight in. Or it would be, if they weren't prone to fogging over. Still, the shapes of green plants can be seen inside...

The Greenhouse is full of far more exotic plants than the garden level on the bottom of the station proper - while there is still a section here devoted to food plants (largely trees bearing tropical fruit of various varieties), around half the space is devoted to plants that are obviously magical in nature. Some of the flowers glow, one wall is taken over by the vines of something that twitches beneath the relative shade of a partial roof in shadowy shades of dark purple and green...

Most of the plants are at least labelled in some way, though there's plenty of cases where the label boils down to "I have no idea what this is, we found it in a Fissure." Most plants sit either on the floor or on long wooden tables, built with gaps to allow water to drain onto the floor (which is as much potting soil as it is anything, and occasionally grows some questionably magical weeds and mushrooms). The walkways between the plants, too, are assemblies of wooden slats, lifted just far enough off the floor to clatter as you walk across them.

There's also plenty of room yet for new acquisitions. A table in a back corner - which seems to have been adopted as Bottom's personal workspace, from the chair and papers scattered over one end, largely identification diagrams - holds a variety of stakes and labels, with pots of all sizes stashed underneath. There's also a sink with a long hose attached, ready for all your watering needs, even if the humidity of the greenhouse by itself feels like it ought to be enough.

UPPER LEVEL: LIBRARY

Taking over the entire upper floor of the Annex is the station's library. It's divided into several rooms and the organization is a little haphazard, but it's usable enough if you're looking for something to research or just something to read to kill time. Shelves fill most of the space, but there are a handful of chairs and stepstools scattered throughout, as well as a more comfortable lounge in the center room. Stairs - up to the roof and down to the lower level - can also be found here, forming a single twisting spiral, and there's a set of single-use bathrooms here as well.

There are roughly four wings to the library, one leading in each direction off the central area and then swinging over to the right side of the door like a massive pinwheel;

MAGIC, HISTORY, AND MYTHOLOGY
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
FICTION
EVERYTHING ELSE

The books are roughly a third native to this world, in particular in the magic and science sections, with the rest being scattered volumes located within various Fissures. The collection is rather eclectic as a result; in particular, the Fiction section is home to a truly ridiculous number of paperback romances, and the Everything Else section is home to an entire shelf of cookbooks and two shelves of self-help books, some of them pretty obviously not intended for humans.

Luckily, the translation magic is still mostly in place - characters will find few, if any, of the books to be completely unintelligible, although some of them might require technical knowledge to understand. A final bin in the center room is simply labeled "TO BE SORTED" - feel free to leave any unwanted books there!

For the most part, finding general books related to a subject can be mostly handwaved. The more specific your search, the less likely it is that you'll find exactly what you're looking for. If there's anything in particular you need, please contact a mod about it!

LOWER LEVEL: AUDIO/VISUAL CENTER

The lower level of the Annex is dimmer than the ones above, and filled with electronic entertainment equipment of all varieties. A stairway leads up from it to the library and eventually the roof, as well as down to the hangar underground beneath the Annex.

Like the library above it, it's divided into four subsections, though these are a bit differently divided than the ones above. They're all soundproofed from each other and the central area, which serves as a sort of lounge. There are eight individual stations out here with one or two pairs of headphones and screens of various sizes, allowing you to watch whatever you like in relative privacy. The shelves set in the walls around the central area are filled with CDs, DVDs, and the like.

The first room is set up as a group theater - one of those really nice ones with the full recliners (though these, of course, are as mismatched as ever), all facing the wall set up as a projection screen. Speakers line the walls, allowing a full surround-sound experience.

The second is the beginnings of an arcade - though for the moment, the only things available are the DDR machine moved from its previous home in the meeting rooms, a cat-themed pinball machine that occasionally meows, and one of those timing-based games where you try to hit the button as the light passes through a pair of rings. For some reason, the androids also set up a prize counter, full of the usual sort of cheap gimmicks and toys.

The third room is apparently some sort of sound studio - microphones and even a pair of cameras face a table set up with a green screen, while one of the other walls is lined with a variety of editing equipment.

The fourth room is... Very nearly empty? A wide bank of plugs fills one wall, and a note attached to the power supply says "FOR USE WITH YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT," so there's that, if you have anything of the like. A large piano also occupies this room; the treadmill, it seems, has been moved to the gym on the ground floor of the apartment building.

In addition to all of the above, there are also two wheeled carts topped with video game consoles and sporting drawers crammed full of appropriate games, which can be moved around at whim. While they spend most of their time in the central area, it's also possible to go play your games on the massive theater screen, if you so desire. Generally speaking, like the books above, the games and movies aren't directly the same as anything characters might be familiar with, though there are some few exceptions.

UNDERLEVEL: GLIDER HANGAR

This natural cavern has been artificially expanded, and one side of it is full of metal storage racks. Only a handful of the racks are filled, with brightly colored, folded sails and the low whirr of magitek engines. Currently there are eight gliders in the racks - six sized for individuals, and two "oversized" gliders designed to carry two people (or one abnormally large person). All of the gliders have unique sail patterning, and they're designed to fold down to be small enough to carry or shove in a hammerspace on expeditions.

Aside from the racks of gliders, the floor has been smoothed out and worked into a sort of landing strip - large arrows indicate an "in" and an "out" lane leading up to the massive hole in the cavern wall, which opens directly over the water. These markings, as well as a few off to the side indicating an area to use for loading and unloading the gliders. A series of runes around the wide entrance keep the rain and the rest of the elements from invading the space.

EXTERIOR: STABLE

Technically not part of the Annex building itself, the stable is a small building tucked between the Annex and the Station proper. A single story with a roof and six large stalls, it's currently home to one chocobo, one wyvern, and one hippogriff. In addition to the stalls, a wide central hallway provides plenty of room to care for mounts, including a hose and drain to wash them down and a set of posts for storing tack and other equipment.

A shed outside the back of the stables contains several bales of hay and a reasonably fresh supply of shavings for bedding. There's also a large metal bin - a miniature dumpster, really - that's helpfully labeled MANURE HERE. Don't open it unless you have to, it doesn't smell that great.

EXTERIOR: GARAGE

Further back behind the stable, there is now a garage, for those who have vehicles obtained from Incendia or elsewhere that they'd like to park at the Station. Unlike the amenities at the stables, the garage isn't much more than a wall-in carport, but it'll at least keep your vehicles out of the weather. A large open area in the middle does contain some equipment for working on related projects, at least.

Lin will be donating most of her new collection of erotic fiction to the library over the next few weeks, one at a time as she, uh, finishes with them. So that's two eromanga (F/M, part of a series), one short doujin (M/M), three DVDs (one live action F/M, one hentai F/F/M, and one live action F/F that eventually turned into F/F/F), and one copy of Steakhouse (a magazine featuring lots of beefy naked men).
