IC Information

Character name: Kurumi Ebisuzawa
Character canon: School-Live (manga)
Canon point: Chapter 67's flashback, after Shiiko says "send someone later" and closes the door
Physical Description: Kurumi is a skinny Japanese girl at the very end of her teens. She has long, dark hair (purple or black depending on how you want to interpret Anime Hair Colors) and dark pink eyes. She usually wears her hair in a matched set of two high ponytails, though she'll tie it up further if she thinks it might get in her way. Her build is... mostly what you would expect from a post-apocalyptic track team member, with hardly an extra ounce of fat and some serious leg power, though in the wake of her illness all that muscle is beginning to atrophy. On her right arm, just below the shoulder, is a bite mark (the observant will note that it's human teeth), surrounded by oddly lumpy, veiny flesh. She keeps this area of her body hidden at all times, usually with a tightly-wound bandage.
About the Character: Once upon a time, there was a girl who joined her school's track team in the hopes of impressing the upperclassman she had a crush on.

And then the zombie apocalypse happened.

Kurumi wound up carrying her injured crush away from the track team practice, not realizing that his already having been bitten meant he was as good as dead. Up on the roof, the one safe spot in all of the mess, there were three other survivors - two other girls and one of the teachers. When her crush began to show signs of the infection, Kurumi reacted by instinct - she grabbed a nearby shovel and put him down before he could reach the others.

This established her role within what was to become the "School-Living Club." While Yuuri handled the food and other supplies that kept them going on a day-to-day basis, and Yuki handled the setting of the mood to something beyond despair, Kurumi became the group's muscle. She patrolled the taken-back halls of the school and eliminated zombies as she could - sometimes to the point of taking needless risks if she happened to see one alone while out patrolling.

In spite of the grisly job that fell to her and her constant companion shovel, however, within the club Kurumi maintained the personality of the cheerful screw-off, always ready to jump feet first into Yuki's schemes. When Miki joins the group, Kurumi offers her a more grounded-in-reality sort of encouragement.

Her role as the group's protector and solo explorer, however, is what eventually gets her into trouble. Kurumi investigates the basement by herself, and in the process is bitten by their turned former teacher, Megumi Sakura. She manages to return to the rest of the club, and it is only thanks to Miki's ability to step into her role and retrieve an experimental medicine that Kurumi pulls through. However, there were still complications afterwards, complications that Kurumi did her best to keep hidden from the other club members.

Because the first rule of the School-Living Club is 'when in doubt, repress it.' While Yuki's delusions (and later, Yuuri's delusion of her little sister, Ruu) are the extreme end of the scale, Kurumi does her fair share of putting on a cheerful face for the sake of the group too. An early scene where this is prominent is when, in the course of their mall trip, the group stops by Kurumi's old house; regardless of the pain she feels revisiting home, Kurumi puts on a smile as she leaves the building, and never talks about it to any of the others.

Likewise, during the university trip, when her zombie disease symptoms begin to act up, Kurumi hides it from the rest of the group, sneaking out at night to wander as the disease keeps her from sleeping. This almost ends badly - Kurumi temporarily joins the horde after leading one of the university students harassing the School-Living Club into them, and is only brought out of it by Yuki's words. She doesn't seem to have issues with the mental effects of her condition after that, but she never talks about that incident, either.

All the hiding it in the world won't help her after they leave the university, however, because it's at that point that her body, rather than her mind, begins to fail her. Initially unable to climb a ladder to the upper floors of Randall HQ, Kurumi's condition progresses to the point that she is using a wheelchair in the most recent handful of chapters, constantly sleeping to a dead-to-the-world degree, and finally in the most recent chapter has to be carried out of danger on a stretcher.

What will become of her after that, and the burden she's putting on the group in her condition, is a source of great anxiety for Kurumi. After so long serving as the physically strong and adept one of the group, to be now physically helpless is especially hard. And whatever brave face she puts on for the others, Kurumi does not expect to survive her condition, as she wrestles with leaving a final message for Yuki and the others. And yet, even so, they refuse to abandon her, because that's not what the School-Living Club does.

They will continue to be who they are, no matter the consequences.

All Kurumi can do is hope that it won't spell their doom, as they are continuously forced to flee from one danger directly into the mouth of another.

Character abilities: Kurumi is, aside from the fact that she was bitten by a zombie and 'cured' by an experimental medicine, a perfectly mundane human girl. A former member of the track team, she's quite a sprinter when she's at her best (which she won't be upon arrival), and practiced with using her favored shovel to take down enemies with blows to the neck. She knows quite a bit about surviving her situation at this point, as well, which accounts for some gardening knowledge (thanks, Yuuri), a good amount of scavenging ability, and some skill at distracting Stupid Level opponents with glowsticks and noisemakers.
Inventory: -> The clothes she's wearing (school uniform, hair ties, arm bandage)
-> Wheelchair (hospital issue, heavy and uncomfortable)
-> Blanket
